Südafrikas neuestes Solarkraftwerk ist jetzt in Betrieb und versorgt 40 000 Haushalte mit Strom
Südafrika hat einen weiteren Meilenstein erreicht, als der Energiekonzern Scatec Solar sein Solarkraftwerk erfolgreich fertig gestellt und an das nationale Stromnetz Südafrikas angeschlossen hat. Das Solarkraftwerk wird insgesamt 86 Megawatt (MW) an Solarenergie beitragen, die voraussichtlich 217 GWh erzeugen und jährlich etwa 40.000 Haushalte mit sauberer Energie versorgen.
Laut dem CEO von Scatec Solar, Raymond Carlsen, war das Projekt “eine weitere große Leistung unseres Teams in Südafrika, das dieses wichtige Projekt früher als geplant ans Netz gebracht und die südafrikanische Stromversorgung in dieser Zeit des dringend benötigten Stroms unterstützt hat”.
Südafrikas neuestes kommerzielles Kraftwerk befindet sich in der Provinz Northern Cape. Der Bau des ersten Kraftwerks begann im dritten Quartal 2018 und wurde im ersten Quartal 2020 abgeschlossen. Nach Abschluss der drei Projekte werden die Solaranlagen in der Lage sein, saubere Energie für schätzungsweise 120 000 Haushalte zu produzieren.
Um ein ähnliches Projekt wie das oben genannte zu fördern, stimmte die südafrikanische Energieregulierungsbehörde zu, der Regierung die Beschaffung von Notstrom zu ermöglichen und den Bau von mehr privaten Kraftwerken zu erlauben. Die nationale Energieregulierungsbehörde (NERSA) veröffentlichte Konsultationspapiere, nachdem der Energieminister die möglichst baldige Beschaffung von 2.000 Megawatt Notstromkapazität und den Bau von 6.800 Megawatt Kapazität aus längerfristigen erneuerbaren Kraftwerken genehmigt hatte. Südafrika benötigt dringend zusätzliche Stromproduktion in das Netz des Landes, um die gegenwärtigen wiederkehrenden Ausfälle zu beenden.
South Africa’s newest Solar power station is now online and powering 40 000 homes
South Africa reached another milestone as power company Scatec Solar successfully completed and connected it’s solar power station to South Africa’s national power grid. The Solar plant will contribute a total of 86 megawatts (MW) of solar energy which is expected to produce 217 GWh and deliver clean energy to around 40,000 households annually.
According to the CEO of Scatec Solar Raymond Carlsen, the project was “another great achievement by our team in South Africa, bringing this important project online earlier than planned and supporting South African power supply in this time of much-needed electricity”.
South Africa’s newest commercial power station is located in the Northern Cape province Construction of the first power plant started in the third quarter 2018 and reached completion in the first quarter of 2020. Upon completion of the three projects, the solar plants will be able to produce clean energy to an estimated 120 000 households.
To encourage similar project to the above, South Africa’s energy regulator agreed to allow the government to procure emergency power and to allow the building of more privately owned power plants. The National Energy Regulator (NERSA) issued public consultation papers after the energy minister allowed the procurement of 2,000 megawatts of emergency capacity as soon as possible and the construction of 6,800 megawatts of capacity from longer-term renewable power plants. South Africa is in urgent need of additional electricity production into the country’s grid to end the current recurrent outages.
